It is not clear what started the melee but fists began flying shortly after a woman was seen pushing another man in the chest.
As the fracas developed, dozens of people were seen arguing and some appeared to trade blows.
One worshipper could even be seen brandishing a metal pole over his head before swinging it in the direction of others.
Police were called to the Turlock Sikh Temple in California, US, on Sunday morning.
Bizarrely, officers later said it wasn't the first fight they'd been called out to at the temple.
In 2013, police were forced to break-up a similar scene in the car park of the building.
Preet Singh, a member of the congregation, said the incident had brought shame on the temple.
He told FOX40: "We all are brothers and sisters here.
"Come to the church.
"Come to the temple.
"We solve our problem here.
